Welcome Messages from Our Executive

BCSS Board President Brent Sweeney

As President of BC School Sports, I’d like to congratulate all student-athletes for qualifying for the 2023 BCSS AA- AAA Tennis Provincial Championships. I hope that this experience is a memorable one for all student- athletes.

I’d like to also thank all of the coaches for their support of high school tennis. The lessons that they teach their student-athletes are just as important as those learned in the classroom. Perseverance, communication, problem solving, and overcoming adversity are just some of the skills that coaches excel in teaching their student-athletes. These are skills that will leave these athletes well suited for their lives after high school.

Representing your school in a Provincial Championship competition is a testament to the hard work and sacrifice made in practices and competitions throughout this season. Each one of those times stepping onto the courts have prepared you for the challenge of competing for this title. I wish all student-athletes the best of luck!

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to BC School Sports AA-AAA Tennis Provincial Championships hosted at Queen Elizabeth Park and Burnaby Lake. I congratulate every student – athlete for qualifying for the Provincial Championships! Of the 76,000+ student-athletes that compete in schools sport each year, few get the chance to compete in a BCSS Provincial Championship for the coveted blue BCSS Provincial Champion banner. For most, it will be the pinnacle of their sporting careers and we are thrilled to be able to put on this memorable experience for our student – athletes.

It takes a large group of dedicated people to put on championships of this magnitude. A huge thank you to Jonathan Pike, Ross Ballard, Sarah DesBrisay, Peter Holowka and the entire team involved, for their incredible stewardship of our tennis championships; they put in an incredible amount of work to ensure our student-athletes have an amazing experience. Thank yous are required, as well, for the many volunteers to give their time to be part of our championships. There are many people involved in putting this event together and to each of them I offer a sincere thank you for your service, leadership, dedication and support.
I want to thank the coaches of these athletes, and all school coaches across the province. Student-athletes, be sure take time to properly thank them for giving their time to help make you a better gymnast, and more importantly a better person that will better our communities now and for years to come.

Student-athletes, remember that you are representing your team, your school and your community. Compete like crazy, but do it in a way that reflects the values of educational athletics and will make your school proud to have you representing them on this stage. I hope each of you performs your very best, and that there will be memories created and bonds cemented that will last a lifetime.
